Once in a while I put pictures on envelopes which reflect the National Month: September was National Dog Month and October is National Cat Month! I think "they" even have something "National" for each week of the year.
I keep busy with my reading and writing. When you get my age, you get swept up in the expression "Time Flies!" I just mailed September "Happenings" and it's the middle of October! However, I really enjoy my life -- my walk with God through each day. I am always aware that He is beside me. He is with you, too. His Holy Spirit dwells inside of each one of us from the moment we surrender our life to Him. For me, that began when I was 14…in the middle of the Great Depression days. I didn't know we were "poor" because my parents never told us. I thought everybody wore homemade underwear and kept putting cardboard in their shoes when the soles began wearing out. We lived on a farm and that gave us plenty of food.
My daddy took us to Sunday School and church every Sunday.
When my Sunday School teacher said, "I want you all to learn the Ten Commandments by next Sunday. Everyone that can say them will get a Baby Ruth candy bar." She could have said "a million dollars" - because that was a real luxury. We only had real good home-made candy.
We were having a Church Revival, and when the preacher explained about Jesus dying for my sins, paying the price for me to live forever with Him in Heaven, I wanted to be His follower, to keep His commandments, to be the best person I could possibly be to show my love and appreciation for His great sacrifice. I was only 14, but by 17, I was teaching His Words in the Bible to a class of 10-year-old girls.
I think it was in the 50's when the evangelist, Billy Graham, held a revival in Houston. My whole family attended every night. Of all the preachers in my life, he still remains my favorite. We are almost the same
age! He'll be 95 on November 7 and I will be 93 on February 3!
I am amazed that he has prayed and planned a nationwide revival for the United States. What a BIG undertaking! What a HUGE expense of giving away, FREE, his plan, at all these seminars. The packet includes two DVD's for your TV, full instructions for a revival in your own heart, in your neighborhood, in your church. In April, I attended one of the seminars which cover the whole USA. The packet we were given contained a most tremendous Bible study! I thoroughly enjoyed it…a 47-page booklet entitled "Living in Christ." His plan only costs $5.00 for everyone who wants to be a part of a nationwide revival. I've mentioned this in two past "Happenings". I am so impressed that at age 95, he cares so much about our nation. It just gets worse and worse! Sin is flaunted all over our TV programs and the daily newspapers. Is there peace anywhere in this whole world? Things are "hard" now…but we know the outcome despite the troubles in life. Remember the song we all sang as a child, "Brighten the corner where you are!" No one cares or prays as much for us and our country as Billy Graham. I listen to his revivals of the 70's and 80's every Saturday night.
The Seminar in April was from l:00-4:00 at a church in the Woodlands. My church pastor couldn't go with me because he had just returned from an out-of-town trip the night before and had to catch-up on a lot of church business. At this meeting, we were encouraged to take all the packets we desired, FREE. I took four: one for my church, my brother's church, and for my friend pastor of a church in Beaumont, and for me.
I arrived at the Seminar at 12:40. Large round tables, seating 6-8, were set up in the meeting room. A crowd had already gathered. No one was sitting at the first table in the front. That was for me! I was busy filling out an information sheet when a young lady, just arriving, asked if she could sit with me. Yes! God is SOoooo good! I don't remember her name, but we were two of a kind! I write "Happenings" and she has a similar ministry -- all of her own. She writes messages on a small brochure with a triple fold. She carried them in a thick cardboard box about 6"x6"x6" with a ribbon around her neck. The sides of the box were worn down from her hand going in and out distributing her messages to everyone she meets: walking down the street, shopping in the stores…she gives away hundreds of messages every week to every one she passes by…just hands them to the people.
I told her I could help by sending a copy to 559 addresses, 157 are to companies. Some make copies for employees. I have copied two on a sheet enclosed herewith containing her current message. I loved it! By cutting the sheet in half and folding it in thirds, you could do the same. There were probably 100 people in this meeting, and God chose us to sit together!
The plan for a nationwide revival was very good. Naturally, I began thinking of excuses why I couldn't do "this or that". I had to laugh, real big, when I played the DVD. Billy Graham was on the mark: He had an answer for every excuse possible…listed the excuse, and dismissed them with good reasons! I thought of Matthew 11:28-30 when Jesus said:
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Small beginnings and commitment to God's work -- as with the five loaves and two fishes -- can grow to minister to great needs. Faithfulness in little things may lead God to use us in greater things. Mark your calendar for that first week in November and pray for this nationwide revival . Plans have been made for a lot of "good stuff" on TV all that week. Billy Graham will speak on November 7, his birthday. I just pray everyone in our nation will be touched by this "something good on TV." How often do we say there is nothing good on TV…nothing good to read in our newspaper! Refuel your soul with something good from the Bible:
Psalm 84:ll,12 - "… the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee."
Galatians 6: 9,10 - "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men especially unto them who are of the household of faith."
I Corinthians 2:9 - "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
We can't just stop meditating on something wrong. We have to replace it with something right. I believe this revival will help America. I end with another quote from I Corinthians 4:5 -
"…judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall every man have praise of God."
